A very warm welcome to my web site
Hi my name is Alan Pedder and I am a self taught watercolourist and the aim of this website is to encourage you to paint as I firmly believe that anyone can learn to paint and you need no special talent, just determination and an acceptance that you will have failures along your artistic journey.
I was born in Lancaster but now live in the small and pleasant village of Summerseat which lies at the southern end of the Rossendale Valley in Lancashire. Once famous for cotton spinning the village is to be found between the towns of Bury and Ramsbottom and is approximately 12 miles north of Manchester, UK.
I have always enjoyed sketching and drawing but when more time became available I turned my interest to the challenging medium of watercolours. Teaching myself from an eclectic mix of information sources I have deliberately avoided private tuition in an attempt to develop a distinctive and unique style of painting. I am pleased to say that many fellow artists have commented that my paintings are easily recognisable as they are highly original and I am pleased that many have been sold around the world to private collectors.
I have been a member of the Altrincham Society of Artists since 2008 and in addition I also regularly exhibit in the prestigious Howarth Gallery Open in Accrington, the Bury Art Week Open ponsored by the Bury Hospice and the Blackburn Open and I have been delighted and quite surprised to win many accolades.
I describe my style as loose English and my palette reflects the colours and hues of the English countryside and coastal areas.
My favourite subjects are boats and in particular the coastal areas of Norfolk where my mothers family comes from as did my major influence, Edward Seago.
